Collection of the Artist

When on an outing around the bottom of Utah Lake, you have to always be aware of what is around you as you may find beauty everywhere. We lived on the prairie for 40 years, and when we returned to the mountains we came back to their comforting protection. There are those who feel that mountains are closing them in, but when you have grown up in the mountains, their height and strength liberate you as you return to them—you're home!

Artistic Statement

What I see is the culmination of all that I have seen. As a result, there is a filter that I place between the scene and the viewer—a painting. It becomes a unique interpretation of my observation, ability, and sensitivity to the person, place, or thing. In rendering an observation I am stricken that objects are most beautiful ephemerally at a specific moment in time.

While I paint many things, landscape is my passion. The beauty of nature and its infinite variety is compelling. As I paint, there is a time when I control the painting, but there comes a time in the process when the subject emerges from the recesses of the canvas and then the painting has needs and wants. As I become the instrument of unveiling it, my painting becomes my battle ground. The ecstasy of painting comes as I participate in the release of what has drawn me to the subject in the first place.

The result is always beautiful to me and perhaps has a charm for others.
